The purpose of Data Privacy Day (Data Protection Day in Europe) is to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices.

Every day we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. This data can be used for our benefit, but also has many risks. How much information about us is freely available to strangers? How much access do we grant social networks to our likes, hobbies and personal information? Data Privacy Day encourages us to think about this issue and to look after, value and protect our privacy.

Daniel Kaplan, member of the AXA Research Fund search committee, and two other experts debated on last November, 28. In particular, they discussed the fact that, in the era of big data and social media, it is inevitable that our private data will all become public.

AXA Binding Corporate Rules

AXA is the first insurance group to have approved Binding Corporate Rules (BCR), an internationally recognized standard providing adequate protection of personal data in multinational companies, and is in the process of implementing them. These rules were reviewed and approved by 16 data protection authorities across Europe. BCR are a data privacy contractual framework setting minimum measures for the protection of personal data (data of customers, employees, and other stakeholders) obtained in the course of business when such data is transferred in multinational companies.
